COMMENT :
Indian aluminium to leverage on the country’s huge bauxite reserves
India’s per capita aluminium consumption at 0.7 kg (in 2005) was very low keeping
with the country’s low GDP. However, the low per capita consumption of aluminium
in India is in fact an opportunity for growth in aluminium consumption against the
back drop of fast growing economic conditions in India. However, aluminium
consumption in the country increased at 12.6% to around 1.08mt of late. Consumption
is estimated to have increased to a 5 year CAGR of 12.9%. Secondary aluminium
demand also shot up to 0.6 MT last year. All these actually speak for growth of the
white metal industry in India.

Investments in Mill Modernization Pay Off
In today’s economical situation, producers are holding back investment and focusing more intensely on modernization for maximum short-term return. Here, key criteria are quantity and quality enhancements as well as operating-cost reductions and ease of maintenance. Siemens VAI offers a variety of solutions for upgrading rolling-mill equipment to increase plant capacity and capability while enhancing product-line quality and profitability.
