VIEWPOINT
Indian Steel Industry all out for a rapid growth
The stage is all set and continuing further support towards the steel industry from the Indian government now will make all the difference. The Indian steel industry is enjoying plethora of assistance from the government, as expected, in the form of creating a positive investment climate in the country to day. Resulting from this, the hundreds of MoU ssigned by private companies and state governments, like Chhattisgarh, Orissa and Jharkhand, now need swift action from all concerned to materialize the desired yields as fast as possible.

Raising the quality standards of Reinforcement Bars in India: Structural Challenges
Sometime back, I saw a newspaper with a very interesting cartoon. The extensive scale of construction across the country and the corresponding rise of breed of builders led the cartoonist to sarcastically remark – “From builders of a nation,
we have now transformed into a nation of builders.” Sarcasm notwithstanding, the cartoon is an excellent reflection of the construction boom across the country. For the last 3-4 years, the construction segment has been recording double digit growth. This has been fuelling a rapid growth in the demand for steel in general and reinforcement bars in particular as it is consumed almost totally in the construction segment.

Iron Ore for steel industry - the issues involved
Iron ore policy is a complex issue since 2003 when the demand of Chinese imports
for iron ore grew substantially. The industries as well as the Government are
seeing the emergence of a number of entirely new factors relating to domestic
demand on one hand and the exports of iron ore on the other alongwith
environmental concern and sustainability of increasing production levels. The
paper is an attempt to articulate certain issues in the context of present day
requirement of iron ore by the steel industry.

Novel combined process solutions offer capital cost, productivity and operating cost benefits to stainless steel producers
The economics of the cold rolling process in stainless steel has been under pressure
in recent years. Existing producers have witnessed significant change associated
with both their costs – in particular raw materials - and the industry structure
resulting from mergers and new investment. The ability to remain competitive
will, in part, be dependant on how producers take advantage of their scale of
production to reduce conversion costs and increase profitability. To address this
market requirement, Siemens VAI has developed an alternative approach which
brings the benefits of high production continuous processes to stainless steel cold
rolling while allowing for production capacities well in excess of that achieved
on conventional production units.
STEEL TECHNOLOGY - INTERVIEW
Non Turn-key approach of project execution is cheaper and faster, if the client is willing to be partner in the project
We have been active in India throughout our existence.
We had our first contacts with Tata on operational improvements in 1978.
In addition, we also had a successful licensing agreement with SAIL on
Hot Blast Stove Technology way back in 1985. Thereafter, we have carried
out a number of projects at SAIL, Tata and Vizag Steel Plants.

The Hot Blast System: Stoves, Hot Blast Main, Burners, Waste Heat Recovery
The supply of hot blast to the blast furnace is such an integral part of the
operation that the supply system must be designed with the ability to match, or
exceed, the lifetime of the furnace itself. From the stove system through the
blast main to the tuyere stock entry into the furnace, Danieli Corus have developed
each component to meet the increasing demand placed on lifetime.
