TRL Krosaki Refractories Limited - Present Challenges and Way Forward
The development of the Refractories industries in India is
inextricably linked with the growth of TRL Krosaki Refractories
Limited (TRL Krosaki). To achieve the twin objectives of selfreliance
and development of backward areas, TRL Krosaki
(Erstwhile Tata Refractories Limited) was setup in 1958 by Tata
Steel and Dider-Werke at Belpahar in Odisha. It has also equity
participation from SAIL, the largest public sector steel producer
of India. Refractories are used in all high temperature processes
to protect the reactors and personnel from the influence of heat
and hot materials. Thus, refractories are critical consumables in
metallurgical and other industries where pyro-processes are
involved.
TRL Krosaki's revenue is on target to hit Rs. 2000 crores in next three years
Managing Director Dr. A.K. Chattopadhyay explains how TRL Krosaki Refractories with the association of global giant, Krosaki Harima Corporation has reinvented itself to reach to the top, and the challenges of staying there.
Record Breaking Blast Furnance Hearth Campaigns - a 2012 update
The Shougang Group, one of the leading steelmakers in
China, installed their first UCAR® Refractory System freeze
lining in 1991. For an iron maker, changing the fundamental
concepts for their hearth lining is a major commitment; much
of the plants profitability relies on the production level and
availability of the blast furnace. In addition, the reliability of
the hearth lining is a critical safety issue. For Shougang, the
decision was based on references from around the iron making
world and on their own troublesome experiences with large
carbon block hearth walls.

STEEL CONSTRUCTION
Steel in construction : emerging usage pattern
With traditional methods of construction finding it difficult
to keep with the emerging demands of a rapid growing economy
like India, it has become necessary to look for alternative
methods, mainly pre-engineered construction, through utilization
of steel. Utilization of steel through pre-engineered construction
concepts provides multiple value to construction. This primarily
involves great customization of construction projects, time
savings in construction apart from other benefits.
Steel is the major constituent in construction. The most
common association of the construction industry is with steel.
Without this steel, commonly called rebar, buildings will be
brittle and unable to withstand the rigors of time. Anyone visiting
a construction site would have seen a spaghetti like material
waiting to be encased in concrete. This scenario can be referred
to as “steel in construction”. For an increasing number of global
construction industry, utilization of steel in construction, through
pre-engineered concept is the standard norm.
