IN FOCUS
Restricted supply & buoyant demand keep scrap prices firmed up
International scrap market welcomed the New Year on a pretty buoyant note and the sentiment is still on. Concerns over supply restriction from traditional exporters and strong demand in most importing countries except China have been supporting the scrap prices to remain at their steady heights, being favoured twofold by availability tightness of alternative metallic's such as HBI and pig iron.
Sharing experiences on India's First Gas-Fired cokeless cupola at Agra
The cheapest melting unit since ages in a foundry has been the conventional coke cupola. It is for this reason still widely used in many countries in the world. However, the coke cupola is not environment friendly and it is one of the reasons why in India the pollution board authorities have classified foundries in the red category, one of the stricter classifications amongst all industrial activity.
FOUNDRY APPLICATION
Novel foamless ceramic filters for advanced metal casting technologies
Ceramic foam filter production technology is based on using reticulated ploymer foams that are coated either by impregnation or spray coating with ceramic slurry. In order to improve the mechanical strength, reduce the shrinkage defects and increase the thermal shock and creep resistance of molten metal filters, a new foamless viscoplastic process has been developed wherein no or less organics are burned out or utilized during processing.
TECHNOLOGY FOCUS
Use of resin binders for high quality foundry castings
Metal casting Industry is among one of the world's oldest industries. The first - known Cast Iron casting made in USA is reported to have been an iron cooking pot cast in the year 1642.
Foundry industry is an organized sector in India and there are more than 6000 foundries in our country.
Aluminium Casting Technologies
Aluminium is the established metal of choice for the production of lightweight components in the automotive, aerospace and transport industries. Casting liquid aluminum alloys into metal moulds using processes such as gravity, low pressure and high pressure die casting is a cost effective means of producing complex shapes that require minimal machining.
